Introduction

When we hear about fasting we normally feel complicated or scary. But it’s not. It is actually so easy and beneficial. People sometimes think if I am fasting can I take my supplements or drink water or drink tea. Yes, with intermittent fasting we can drink water, tea or supplements. This will not break our fast. 

What is intermittent fasting

Intermittent fasting is just omitting frequent meals. Usually when we wake up in the morning we feel slightly hungry but it goes away. We have a hormone called cortisol that spikes in the morning then it passes and you do not feel hungry. Eat when you are hungry. The real hunger starts when you start feeling stomach pain or slight  headache then it is time to eat. The more and more you go for intermittent fasting you will know when you are really getting hungry and you can set up time when you want to eat. Intermittent fasting doesn’t mean starving, it just reduces the frequency of eating.

Once you get used to it you will notice cognitive development, more focus, you can learn things more quickly, energy, appetite control, anti aging, your memory will be more efficient. But it takes time. Everyone is different so for some people it takes 3 to 4 months to adopt it. Once we lower our carbs our body starts burning fat for fuel and also notices a significant weight loss.

How To Do Intermittent Fasting

On a regular diet we are snacking all the time because we feel hungry all the time. The first goal is to lower the carb so that you will feel less hungry. The second step is to eat three meals a day and no snacking. Also eat enough vegetables and healthy fat so that you can go longer. Let your body tell you when you are hungry.

The third step is to squeeze your meals in two so you skip breakfast and eat lunch and dinner. Lot of people are even doing one meal a day and feeling amazing. You can have tea, bone broth, keto drinks (which have no sugar and very low carbs), this will not break your fast.

    To do extended hours of fasting, people do 24 hrs, 48 hrs, 60 hrs, sometimes 72 hrs. This fasting has many benefits.
